A Portrait of a Nation, One Iris at a Time

The Eyes of Britain project is a unique artistic journey capturing 1,000 individual irises from people across the UK. Each eye is photographed in extraordinary detail, creating a one-of-a-kind record of who we are, where we come from, and how we see the world around us.

Why the Iris?

Your iris holds remarkable detail, patterns, and colours that no one else shares. It’s an artwork created by nature, and when photographed in macro detail, it reveals astonishing depth. The Eyes of Britain project brings these hidden artworks into focus, turning them into striking visual portraits.

Discover how to contribute your iris and story, and join a vibrant community celebrating Britain’s diversity.

The Vision Behind Eyes of Britain

At the heart of the Eyes of Britain project is a simple idea: every person has a story worth telling. By capturing 1,000 irises, we are creating a collective portrait of Britain—diverse, modern, and deeply human. Each participant’s eye is not just an image but a contribution to a larger story about identity and community.

Life Through 1,000 Eyes

From bustling cities to quiet villages, the Eyes of Britain project travels across the UK, meeting people from all walks of life. Every iris tells a story of heritage, experience, and individuality, yet together they form a mosaic of shared belonging.

How to Get Involved

Taking part in the Eyes of Britain project is simple. Throughout the year, I host pop-up photography sessions in towns and cities across the country. These events are open to everyone, offering the chance to have your iris captured and become part of this nationwide artwork. At just £30 per eye/person it’s an absolute steal.

Contribute Your Image And Story

Alongside your image, you can choose to share your story. What does Britain mean to you? What makes you proud of where you’re from? From written reflections to video interviews, your voice helps shape the narrative of Eyes of Britain.

Where to See the Eyes of Britain

As the collection grows, the project will showcase these remarkable iris portraits both online and through future exhibitions. The aim is to create a digital and physical gallery that celebrates the true diversity of Britain—one eye at a time.

Why Eyes of Britain Matters

The Eyes of Britain project is about connection. At a time when the world feels divided, it’s a reminder that every person’s view matters. By looking into each other’s eyes, we find what unites us: humanity, creativity, and the stories that shape who we are.
